history and images

zahnbeitel was founded by schaefer in 1996 as the sick rose project. originally conceived as a classic industrial, then harsh noise project. doering joined in 1998 for the first studio album dotabata-no rekodo, recorded in the leidersbach summerstudio. this recording session actually established the tradition of summer studio continued in 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004. whilst in the early days doering/schaefer used mostly analog synthesis, the synthesis method of low-level wave manipulation (llwm, pronounce as if welsh) has come to play a major role. uffmann (from the original kombinat and rabenhirn) played on the studio album spindeltrimmer and live at noise transmission 1999. in 2005, karg joined for drum programming, fight vocals (with schaefer), low-level metal manipulation, and everything.

history and images

gleema emerged from an attempt in 2001 to compose a new a-fon album. the material was so absurd, it needed a new project. from 2002 to 2005, schaefer worked on the material occasionally. now ready for final arrangement and production.

history and images

from schaefer's zahnbeitel (1996) came the now well-known zahnbeitel (since 1998), a-fon (since 1999) was an offspring of that. so, schaefer's original solo plans have been re-merged into other projects constantly since 1996. afoam is the attempt to turn back to the original ideas with some major stylistic modifications.

ghoulag

Contract All | Expand All

from the gates of the hell of noise spawned the crowd of the ghoulag (in 2006). noisecore, metal on flesh, doering, karg, schaefer.

history and images

founded in 2006 after the successful zahnbeitel session ghoulag with karg. metal-oriented. doering (bass guitar), karg (vocals, drum programming), schaefer (guitar, additional vocals) walking on the thin line between riff and noise wall.

soundtracks

Contract All | Expand All

a-fon musicians do wonderful work for charity. unpaid free-lance work for no-budget movies. or, in the case of the hessische rundfunk, miserably paid work for some german state-capitalist radio station, who don't know what a werksvertrag and a freier mitarbeiter is, make you pay a lot of taxes, and who do not even send artists tapes of their own work.
